What you could do on a 4-night break at Sealark holiday cottage

Monday - Imagine the winding coastal road leading you to Sealark Cottage. Before settling in, a detour to Runswick Bay (Just a mile from Sealark Cottage) is a must. As you descend into the village, the terracotta-roofed cottages cling to the cliffside like colourful barnacles, creating a picture-postcard. It boasts a large secluded bay and at low tide, is a gorgeous beach great for fossil hunting and rock pooling. Late afternoon arrival - In winter, cozy up in front of the log burner. In milder weather sit outside in the courtyard style garden having a drink and listening out for the owls.

Tuesday – You may decide to take a trip to Whitby. Perhaps take in a festival, or walk the 199 steps to the Abbey. Lunch at Sanders Yard Bistro or the historical White Horse and Griffin where Captain Cook hired and fired his crew. Then you many decide to wander round exploring the old medieval yards of Whitby. Perhaps try your hand at crabbing, or visit Pannett Park and Whitby Museum. On the way back, admire the lovely sunset. Back to Sealark Cottage for dinner -Dinner might be a renowned steak pie from the butchers in the village (go early because they sell out by lunchtime).

Wednesday –A scenic drive takes you to Goathland, a village steeped in the atmosphere of the North York Moors. Lunch at the Homestead restaurant is a culinary journey, where the flavours of the region are showcased in exquisite dishes. It is one of our favourite restaurants and great for a treat or special occasion.

Walk off your lunch with a walk from Mallyan Spout to Beckhole and explore the stunning scenery. Mallyan Spout is a 70-foot waterfall. The water drops almost vertically, and the falls can be a spectacular sight after heavy rains.

Thursday – You might choose to lace up your walking boots and set off on the coastal path to Staithes. The panoramic sea views are very special. The crisp sea air invigorates your senses as you follow the winding path. Arriving in Staithes, you are greeted by a maze of narrow, winding and cobbled streets. Enjoy a hearty lunch at the Cod and Lobster, perhaps savouring fresh seafood. Explore the art galleries, where local artists capture the beauty of the coastline in their works. Step into the Staithes Heritage Centre, where the story of the famous explorer Captain Cook unfolds. After a walk back to Hinderwell, you may decide to stop in at The Old School Tea Rooms for a piece of delicious homemade cake. If you still need anything for dinner, you might go to The Badger Hounds pub, just a couple of minutes-walk from Sealark Cottage.

Friday –Time to check out. Before bidding farewell to North Yorkshire, you could call into Danby Lodge National Park Centre nestled within the heart of the North York Moors, along the banks of the River Esk. Danby Lodge is the perfect place to spend time in a tranquil, countryside setting. Have a coffee at The Truffled Hog Cafe, browse the ‘Inspired By…..’ arts and crafts gallery where local artists showcase their talents. As you depart, the memories of your 4-night break linger. You know that you will return to explore more of this enchanting region.
