Wildlife Spotting near Sealark Cottage

From moorland birds to  minke whales, there is a wealth of wildlife to be discovered in the North York Moors. We provide binoculars for you to borrow to help with your viewing. 

At Sealark Cottage we often hear owls whilst sitting out on the terrace or giving our dogs their evening walk  There is so much birdsong in the hedges around Sealark.

In Spring, the cliffs at Staithes are full of nesting birds - the noise they make is amazing to hear. It is one of my favourite times to visit Staithes - I love watching and listening to the birds.

Dalby forest runs bird sound safaris. In our busy lives, it is often difficult to take time out to just listen to the birds. Dalby Forrest is 45 minutes from Sealark Cottage. https://www.yorkshirecoastnature.co.uk/events/144/bird-sound-safari-forests-2025

At Scaling Dam Nature Reserve you can spot oystercatcher, mallard, teal, goldeneye, widgeon and grebe and others and the  North York Moors are home to birds such as golden plover, curlew and lapwing 

 

Do you like rock pooling? When the tide is out Runswick Bay, Staithes and Robin Hood's Bay are great for rock pooling. You may find barnacles, crabs, limpets, cockles and sea anemones. Rock pooling is not just for children!
