TO EAT LOCALLY - Hinderwell and Port Mulgrave

The Badger Hounds Pub - a couple of minutes walk from Sealark. A very friendly pub with nice food. There is a beer garden for summer months. Booking is advised for meals. Dogs welcome in the bar/lounge area (not the restaurant) but must be booked in advance. The pub holds regular events such as singers, musicians, quizzes. Badger Hounds

The Old School Tea Rooms, is a lovely friendly tea rooms run mainly by volunteers. It is a couple of doors down from Sealark. They use local produce where possible. The cakes and lunches are delicious. There is a selection of local crafts to buy. Open Sunday to Friday (closed Saturday). Dogs are welcome outside, where there is a part covered area. If there are no events running in the community room, dogs are also allowed inside. The community room has a display of local children through the ages from when the school opened.

Number 20 Port Mulgrave is a restaurant in Port Mulgrave that features in the Michelin Guide. It is the Hinderwell side of Port Mulgrave so it is just a 5 minute walk from Sealark Cottage. It offers a simple seasonally focused, Italian inspired menu that changes daily. The Josper charcoal grill dictates the menu with fish, meat and vegetables cooked over burning coals. Number 20

Staithes

Dotty's tea rooms in Staithes are a vintage style tea room that serve delicious cakes and lunches and the staff are really friendly. They accept dogs. Dotty's

The Cod and Lobster pub in Staithes is one of our favourites because of the position right on the seafront. Booking is advised. We love sitting outside in good weather. It is so near the sea that in the great storm of 1953, the front was washed away and the fishermen looked on in sorrow as the precious bottles of brew bobbed about on the retreating foam.    Cod and Lobster

Goathland

The Homestead Kitchen is a fine dining restaurant in the beautiful village of Goathand. It is our favourite restaurant to visit when we are visiting Sealark Cottage,  and is a great place to go for a celebration or just to treat yourself. The restaurant prides itself on using local produce and has just been awarded a Green Michelin Star for sustainability. Homestead Kitchen

Ruswarp

The Waterside Chainbridge is a restaurant situated on the banks of the river Esk. What makes it so special is the position. In summer you can dine outside watching the canoeists  and kayakers and the swans gliding by. There are pots of flowers, log burners and lots of twinkly lights. Quiet music plays and you can almost imagine you are sitting in the Mediterranean. No dogs allowed Waterside

Whitby

There are so many good places to eat in Whitby. Here are just a few of the ones we like.

Mr Cooper's Coffee House - a family run coffee house serving great coffee, amazing bagels, salads and cakes. It is dog friendly.   Mr Cooper's Coffee House

Sander's Yard- situated in one of Whitby's old yards, this is a nice bistro and coffee shop which caters well for all dietary requirements. Dogs are allowed in the lounge area (booking advisable). There is a pretty outside seating area. The bistro offers salads, sharing platters, breakfasts, great cakes etc.  Sanders Yard Bistro

White Horse and Griffin- We like this place for the history. Built in 1681 by Sir Hugh Cholmley, the White Horse & Griffin was the first Coaching Inn from Whitby to York and London. It was also used as a meeting place for explorer Captain James  Cook and William Scoresby who hired and fixed their crews from the building. The restaurant has a lot of fish on the menu, but for non fish lovers, there are plenty of other options. White Horse and Griffin
