Accessibility
Sealark Cottage is accessed by steps at both the front and back of the cottage because it is built on sloping ground. Therefore there are changes of level. Please see the photos. We are unable to add a ramp at the front due to the number of steps, or at the back steps into the courtyard because they are too near the garage wall.
You can click on the photos to enlarge them. Please contact us if you require more information.
We are dog friendly and accept assistance dogs. Dogs are normally not allowed upstairs, but assistance dogs are.
Front door access. The front door is accessed through a wooden gate and down 6 steps made of concrete and then there is a small step up to the door. There is lighting from a street light and also a solar light. The key safe is accessed from the front of the house (however, arrangements can be made if you are unable to access via the front steps). There is an outside light at the front which can be left on if you are going out and returning when dark.
The back door access is reached from the parking/driveway. You go through the back garden gate and then up 2 small steps onto a gravel area. To reach the back door, there are a further 2 steps. There is a solar light which lights up the way.
The back door opens outwards and then you walk into the utility room. The floor in the utility room is a level laminate floor.
door access - once inside the house, there are turn locks on the front door and back door, so no keys are required. The patio doors have 2 keys for access.
Raised terrace area This is on several levels. From the graveled area of the back garden there are 2 steps up to the terrace. From the patio doors there is a change in level to get on to the terrace
Front garden There is a flat concrete path that goes from the bottom of the front garden steps round the side of the house. There are also ......steps up to the top level of the front garden (however, there are no chairs or grass here and we only use these steps to get up and do the gardening)
There is a staircase going from the hall to the landing, which leads to the 2 bedrooms and the bathroom. There is a banister rail on the right hand side going up the stairs.
Flooring - Downstairs flooring is all a wooden level floor. The stairs and bedrooms are all carpeted.
Seating in the lounge - There is a sofa with arms and 2 armchairs. There are 4 dining chairs (without arms) and also a wooden dining bench
The bathroom has an overhead shower. There is no separate shower. There is a hand rail to get into the bath and a non slip bath mat. The flooring is tiles
Beds - the king size bed has an extra 9cm mattress topper for added comfort. However this means that it is 9cms higher to access the bed. The twin beds don't have additional toppers and are memory foam mattresses. Pillows and duvets do not have feathers in them. Both bedrooms have a chair in them and a luggage rack so you don't need to bend down to unpack your luggage.
Please note that nearby Staithes has parking at the top of the hill. You can be dropped off in the village, but your driver needs to park the car at the top of the hill. There are no disabled parking spaces in Staithes. During festival times, there is sometimes transport into and back from the village for those who struggle to walk.
Runswick Bay does not have disabled facilities. There is a small car park at the bottom of the village but this fills up very quickly and there is still a short walk down hill to view the sea and village.
The pub in the village serves food and has a carpark. There is a small convenience shop/butchers in the village.
