Sustainability
At Sealark Cottage Hinderwell, we are trying to help save the environment wherever possible.
Our cleaners, Cleaner and Greener, use green, sustainable and ethically sourced products. In addition to this, the products are also vegan, non-toxic and pet friendly. Many cleaning products contain harmful chemicals that can damage the environment, are bad for wildlife and can contaminate water.
Our duvets in both rooms are from Duvet Hog. The vegan-down comes from recycled PET plastic water bottles in an eco friendly factory which uses 100% renewable energy and produces zero waste. Discarded plastic PET bottles are washed, have their labels removed and are then shredded into tiny flakes. Next the flakes are melted and run through a giant spaghetti stringer-like machine. This produces silk-soft textile fibres that are finer than your eyelashes. It's this upcycled fibre that is spun, fluffed up and given a second life as a luxuriously soft, airy fill for the duvets. Any waste that isn't suitable for use in later productions is passed to a local soft toy company to use to fill their teddies. 2 of our pillows in the king room are also from Duvet Hog - when pillows need replacing we will replace them all with Duvet Hog pillows. Duvet Hog
Our toilet rolls are from 'Who gives a crap' Who Gives a Crap They are 100% bamboo, come wrapped in paper and 50% of profits are donated to help ensure that everyone has access to clean water.
The throws on the single bed room are by Weaver Green and are made of recycled bottles Weaver Green
The mattress on the kings size bed is made locally in Yorkshire by Harrison Spinks. The company grows their own flax and hemp and has its own flock of sheep, so that the filling for their mattresses are sustainable.
We encourage recycling. We ask that non recyclable waste is put into a bin bag and then into the bin outside our garage. All clean recyclable waste can be put into the same bin but does not need to be bagged up. Our refuse company (John Noble of Whitby) sorts out all the recycling at their depot, so recycling does not need to be separated into tins, paper, card, plastic etc. - it can all just go loose in the bin.
There is a bus stop right opposite the house. This is an easy way you to travel to Sandsend and Whitby in one direction or Middlesborough in the other direction. It is more environmentally friendly but also you save on parking fees. The buses run every half hour and the timetable is here bus timetable
In our welcome folder, we give you some suggested walking routes direct from the house. There are some beautiful walks from Sealark Cottage without getting into your car. We are only 10 minutes walk form the Cleveland Way National Trail and from here you can walk to Staithes and Runswick Bay with stunning sea views in both directions.

Their steak pies are delicious - go early because they sell out by lunchtime.
