Cottage Details
DOWNSTAIRS
Downstairs is an open plan lounge, dining area and kitchen. This makes it a great social space. There are patio doors opening onto the south facing courtyard style garden, ideal for summer, and for cooler weather there is a woodburning stove (logs and kindling provided for one fire).
There are 2 arm chairs and a 3-seater sofa, a coffee table, and a smart TV - you can log into your own Netflix account etc. There are plenty of books and maps on the local area so that you can make the best of your holiday.
The dining table easily seats 4 people.
The fully equipped kitchen is equipped with everything you need to make meals. There is an oven with grill, hob, slow cooker, microwave and cafetiere. We provide kitchen roll ,oven gloves, tea towels, dish cloth, pan scrub, tin foil, washing up liquid and dishwasher tablets.
For rainy days or evenings, there are a variety of games to play.
The art in the house reflects the local area.
In the utility room there is a washing machine/dryer and microwave. We are trying to be eco friendly so have provided washing sheets for the washing machine, rather than washing liquid, which avoids the single use plastics. In the understairs cupboard there is an iron, ironing board, drying rack and heated drying rack. The utility room is ideal for drying of muddy dogs.
There is plenty of space to hang your coats - the coat rack in the hall has been made from wood from the lifeboat Helen Wycherley, a national historic ship which was in Whitby harbour for repair. We were able to have a look around the lifeboat and talk to the current owner about future plans for the boat.
There are binoculars for wildlife watching - there is so much wildlife locally.
UPSTAIRS
Upstairs there are 2 bedrooms. The main bedroom has a king size bed with a luxury Harrison Spinks Yorkshire made mattress and an Emma mattress topper. We want you to sleep well. We hope the pillows we have provided on the beds are comfortable. If not, there is a pillow menu for you to choose from. There is also a pillow spray to use so that you can drift of to sleep with the relaxing smell of essential oils.
You can cuddle up and cosy down with our super-soft and fluffy, sustainable duvets from Duvet Hog made from recycled bottles. It is like sleeping under a soft cloud of candy floss.
Beds are made up with white linen. The room is decorated in shades of gold, cream and green, making it a peaceful retreat.
There is plenty of hanging space and drawers and a hair dryer is provided. There is a radio so that you can listen to your favourite show whilst you relax in bed. There is a bedroom chair and a luggage rack. This room is at the back of the house. From the window you can see glimpses of the North Yorkshire Moors.
Bed was the comfiest I ever had to sleep in
The second bedroom has twin beds and is decorated in shades of blue and yellow. There is plenty of storage space and a dressing table. This room is at the front of the house. Pictures in the twin room reflect the local area.
The house bathroom has a bath with an overhead shower. There is a heated towel rail. A fluffy bath sheet and hand towel are provided per person, plus an extra hand towel and a bath mat in the bathroom. Hand soap is provided.
GARDEN AND OUTDOORS
Sealark has a south facing enclosed courtyard style garden with a raised terrace area, ideal for al fresco lunches after a morning exploring or a glass of wine in the sunshine. There is comfortable seating (sofa and chairs) with a glass topped coffee table.
There are pots of pink and red geraniums, purple lavenders, rosemary and swaying grasses. When the scents of lavender and rosemary mingle in a gentle breeze, it creates a truly evocative experience.
There are black filigree screens, and decorative stone ornaments.
When day turns to dusk, there are solar fairy lights so you can extend your time relaxing on the terrace. Often there are owls to be heard in the evening.
The garden has a retractable washing line
There is a small front garden with a variety of plants. We especially like the vivid everlasting pea with purple pink flowers.
For trips to the beach and picnics we provide a picnic set (in the utility), 4 fold up picnic chairs and a wind break (in the garage)
PARKING
PLEASE NOTE:- We have off road parking for one car on our drive at the back of the house. This is a shared drive with next door and our part is the right hand side of the drive. We can park our Vauxhall Insignia relatively easily - parking for a larger car such as a SUV may be more difficult. Parking is often, but not always available in front of the house.
Please bring with you:
- Slippers (we ask that you do not wear outdoor shoes upstairs)
- Beach towels - we provide towels for your use indoors
- Dog towels, dog bed, torch for night time dog walking
